Formerly known as
Littlemore Hospital, it was originally opened in 1846 as a residency for
the mentally ill.
Along with many other institutions of this kind it was closed in the early
1990’s when patients were returned to accommodation in the wider community.
The complex lay empty and neglected until the late 1990’s when it was
purchased by Try Homes to be redeveloped into domestic flats and houses.
The state of much of the site had become very poor and much sympathetic
restoration work was needed to provide a usable structure. Yet despite
this major structural and aesthetic work the character and beauty of the
original structure have been retained to produce a highly successful development
comprising of some 63 apartments.
The site now accommodates both historic and contemporary architecture
within the sites impressive parkland grounds.
